We're planning to retire the Community Data Portal (CDP) after nearly 15 years of service. The most active datasets will be migrated to the Climate Data Gateway website. We tentatively plan to shutdown the CDP service by Jan 31, 2018. Please contact us with questions or concerns.
IHOPE Integrated History of People on Earth
Summary: The Integrated History and Future of People on Earth (IHOPE) is a multi-year activity that seeks to understand the complex ways in which humans have affected and have been affected by natural systems of the Earth, and to integrate human history with a fairly detailed and spatially explicit natural history of the Earth over the last 8,000 years. IHOPE is an AIMES activity.

The long-term goals of the IHOPE Project are:

1) Map the integrated record of natural and human system change on the earth over the last 8,000 years, with higher temporal and spatial resolution in the last 300 and the last 100 years.

2) Understand the connections and dynamics of human history by testing integrated human-in-natural-systems models against the integrated history. For example, how well do various models of the relationships between climate, agriculture, technology, disease, language, culture and war explain the historical patterns of human settlement and population?

3) Project with much more confidence and skill options for the future of humanity, based on models and understanding that has been tested against the integrated history and with participation from the full range of stakeholders.
